Our Story
A Story of Authenticity
& Craftsmanship
I 'm Mohammad Muqeem — a husband and a father of two. Since 2002, I've been working for myself and for my people: my family, and my artisans in the Northern part of India.
I was born into a financially challenged family involved in farming and handicrafts. I grew up as the fifth child, with a total household income of around $4 a day — but my parents took good care of us: one brother, four sisters, and me. My early education was difficult, but with the support of my parents and sisters, I kept going. In 2002, I began supplying our family-made decor pieces to export houses in India, and in 2003 I moved to New Delhi for my higher education, where I completed my bachelor's and postgraduate degrees.
Driven by a thirst for learning and the ambition to build my own international business, I went to the UK in 2011 and completed my
MBA in Finance. Over those years I worked across many industries — warehouses, catering, midday lunch service for primary schools, hotel front desks, e-commerce retail for designer clothing brands, and my own handmade home decor: procurement, brand building, and selling online. Starting from ground-level blue-collar jobs, I worked my way up to become a senior manager at a London e-commerce company by 2013. I began retailing online in the UK in 2012 and registered our brands with the UK IPO. In 2021 I moved to the USA to expand into the American market — launching 4,000+ SKUs across European high-street women's clothing and handmade home decor.
Through all of it, one principle has stayed the same: everything we make travels a direct path — from our hands to your home, with no middlemen in between. We are the artisans ourselves, so that connection isn't a marketing line; it's simply how we work, and it's what lets us protect both the quality of each piece and the value that reaches the people who create it.
In a market where big homeware brands tell beautiful stories about traveling the world and supporting artisans — usually to justify a high price — I wanted to do something simpler and more honest. As the artisans ourselves, we've seen the disconnect between those stories and the support that actually reaches our community. That gap is the reason Handicrafts Home exists: to offer you genuine value for your hard-earned money, while making sure that value truly uplifts our artisans and their families.
By God's grace, our work has been met with immense love from customers around the world — many of whom call us “our new favorite decor brand.”
Reflected in hundreds of thousands of ratings averaging 4.4 stars and above. For almost 25 years, that support has allowed us to keep uplifting our artisans and their families.
Every frame, box, and mirror we make carries that promise: real craftsmanship, made by hand, with a direct connection to the source. Thank you for being part of this journey — for helping us preserve a tradition, and for valuing the human touch in every creation.
